The Final Countdown!

The June Bank Holiday is fast approaching which means the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is just around the corner. Here at Today FM, we’re gearing up for our annual 10K outing – we’re motivating ourselves with music and dance, all designed to get us across that finish line on Sunday, 3rd June.

Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to in advance of the 36th Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon:

Muireann’s Ultimate Women’s Mini Marathon Playlist

On her lunchtime show, our Muireann O’Connell, along with her Today FM listeners, decided to create the Ultimate Women’s Mini Marathon Playlist to get us all motivated over the next few weeks. Thousands of people got in touch to suggest what songs should make the cut – and there are some absolute crackers in there – like M.I.A ‘Paper Planes’ to get you started, Daft Punk’s ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger’ for when you’re picking up the pace and Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ for when you’re in the zone and want to lose yourself, but not actually get lost...because that wouldn’t be ideal. The playlist is so good that we’ll be blasting it out on the big day to get us all in the mood. You can view the entire playlist on Todayfm.com/lunchtime or search ‘Muireann’s Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon playlist’ on Spotify.

This year we teamed up with our pals in Elverys Intersport to create a Today FM Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon limited edition hoodie and Muireann gave away some of this serious swag  to lucky listeners across the week. You still have a chance to win one of our exclusive hoodies, tune into Alison Curtis on Weekend Breakfast in the coming weeks and you might bag yourself one!

Girls on Film

This week we’re busy filming our Women’s Mini Marathon Dance Troupe who will be channelling the 80s and providing us with a fun warm-up dance routine that anyone can easily learn ahead of the big day.  Last year, our Today FM Dance Troupe, led by Jane Shortall entertained us all with a fast paced, upbeat danceathon before we hit the start line. We’re going bigger this year so look out for Jane and her team at the Today FM stage. You can check out the dance routine video over on our Today FM Facebook and Instagram – get practising those moves! Leg warmers: optional!

Speaking of filming, we hit the road for Longford to visit the amazing transition year students in the Mercy Convent in Ballymahon to talk to them about taking part in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon this year. The students are raising money for Cancer Care at Friends of St Luke’s Hospital and have already raised over €1,000 through various school events. They’re one school of many who are taking on the marathon for great causes around the country. Keep an eye on Today FM Facebook page to see how we got on going back to school!

Team Today FM is registered and ready. Don’t forget to make sure you register before the 18th May and stay tuned to Today FM – your official Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon Radio Station.
